Lessor ran mine operations in Bisbee
Lessor's were the small companies that leased sections of Bisbee’s mines from the major mining company’s. They sought the scraps of ore left behind and small orebodies that the larger companies could not profitability mine. They also ran small precipitation plants underground where they dammed up copper water and added steel cans and other scrap iron to recover the copper. The lease operations halted in January of 1944. After the mines closed in 1975, leases were issued for the mining of turquoise and minerals specimens on No. 7 dump and other surface areas. In 2003 Phelps Dodge formed a joint venture with BioteQ creating a company called Copreco LLC. This company continued the leach operations with a newly built Biosulphide/Thiopag plant which ran it until November 2013.
