Junction air shaft
The Junction air shaft, probably never actually existed, but was rather a newspaper misprint. In 1905 the 900 level of the Junction mine was being developed, but the temperatures were running around 118 degrees partly because of the steam pipes to run the pumps. At this time a fifth shaft compartment was specifically raised to handle these pipes and increase ventilation. It appears that the newspaper reporter confused this for an air shaft.
