East shaft #1

The East shaft #1  is an early working only known from a notation on an 1882 map of the Copper Queen Claim. Its location was penciled onto the map along with the location of the Copper Czar shaft. The Copper Czar was an early name for the Czar shaft, which fell out of use by 1886 The East shaft #1, was located approximately half way between the Copper Queen Incline and the Czar Shaft, about 50ft. from the bottom of the canyon.  The actual location has been built over and covered with mine/slag dumps a number of times. No sign of the shaft remained even as early as 1890.  If there was an East shaft #2  as the name of the #1 implies, it likely became the Copper Czar Shaft.
